G E N E R A L  R U LE S

1) The competition is open to singers of all nationalities
born after January 1, 1987
2) Applicants for the competition, undertake to abide by the competition rules, the regulations on performance and the decisions of the Jury.
3) The application must be sent to WSIMC before February 15, 2022.

S C O R E / P AR T S

The competition organisation will provide the orchestral parts needed for the final.
The following regulations apply to competitors without their own accompanist:

A) Clear and easily readable parts must be provided for the competition accompanist.
B) In special cases WSIMC may request that the score must be sent in advance for preliminary study.

R U L E S  F O R  T H E  P E R F O R M A N C E

In the first and the second round each competitor will perform his/ her entire program without interruption.
Each competitor will decide the order of his/her pieces in the program.

All competition pieces, excluding the oratorio, passion, mass and cantata arias, should be performed by heart. All opera and oratorio arias must be sung in the original key. Songs/Lieder may be sung in a generally acceptable key. The key must be specified in the application.

The complete version of any aria with recitative and/or cabaletta must be performed. All repertoire should be sung in the original language.

C O M P E T I T I O N   R E P E R T O I R E

A) 6 opera arias from different periods, at least two of these arias, number 1 and 2, must be chosen from the list of “obligatory repertoire”
B) 3 arias from oratorio, passion, mass, cantata or concert aria repertoire

C) 4 Lieder/songs in different styles
D) 1 piece by Wilhelm Stenhammar
At least three languages must be included in the repertoire.

C O M P E T I T I O N   P R O G R A M M E

First round

Programme, chosen by the competitor, from his/her competition repertoire – at least one opera aria must be included, showing different styles, including at least two languages (min.10 –max.12 min).

Second round

The jury will choose the programme from the competitor’s competition programme (max 20 min). Here will the obligatory piece by Wilhelm Stenhammar will be performed. The first and the second round will be performed with piano accompaniment.
Final
The jury will choose two opera arias from the competitor’s competition programme.
The final concert, will be accompanied by the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra (SON).

C O M P E T I T I O N S CH E D U L E

For the candidates: registration and schedule for rehearsal with pianist June 9, 2022, 1 to 3 p.m
First round: June 10–12, 2022
Second round: June 13–15, 2022

Final: June 17, 2022 6, p.m (rehearsal with orchestra June, 16)

Participants, accepted for the competition, must register in person, at the registration desk, in the main foyer in the Concert Hall, June 9, 2022, 1-3 p.m. Please, bring passport or other official identity document.

The order of performance will be determined by a ballot in the Concert Hall June 9, 1.30 p.m.
The presence of all competitors is requested on this occasion. One of the competitors will draw a slip with a letter. After that letter, the singers start in alphabetical order, beginning with the first singer’s surname and according to the Swedish alphabet, where Z is followed by Å, Ä and Ö before returning to A.

The same order will be maintained throughout the whole competition. Any candidate, who not is ready to appear at
the allotted time, may be disqualified. A singer, suffering from temporary hoarseness or other ailment, may be allowed to sing at a later time. On request, must certificate from a Doctor be provided.

If a competitor, by private reasons, need to leave Norrköping temporary during the competition, the WSIMC management must be informed.

J U R Y

The professional and international jury is consisting of minimum seven prestigious music personalities.

A D J U C A T I O N    P R O C E D U R E

The competition will be adjudicated according to the principles and procedures, determined in the “Regulations for the Jury” and confirmed by the WSIMC.
In choosing the finalists and adjudicating in the final, the total impression, given by each competitor in all the rounds, will be taken into account. The decisions of the Jury are final.

First prize: 120 000 SEK
Second prize: 60 000 SEK
Third prize: 40 000 SEK ”Östgöta Prize”
Audience’s prize: 20 000 SEK
Mozart Prize: 10 000 SEK
Stenhammar Prize:10 000 SEK (for the best interpretation of Wilhelm Stenhammar songs)

G E N E R A L  R U L E S

The competition organizers have unlimited rights to broadcast and record, videotape, televise, film or photograph during the competition events and concerts and to make audio or visual recordings from the competition, without any payment at all, to the competitors or prize-winners or pianists.

All the competition events will be open for the audience. The audience must observe all instructions, announced at the beginning of each competition event. Applause, or other reactions, are only permitted after the competitors’ complete programme.
The original language used in these rules, are Swedish. Any disagreements will be decided by reference to the original Swedish text. Competitors, eliminated in the first and the second round will be given an opportunity to discuss their results with members of the Jury.
Every competitor will be responsible and pay for his/her own travelling costs.
The finalists will afterwards be paid for the travelling expenses up to max. 5,000 SEK. Receipt must be provided.

AC C O M M O DAT I O N

Some of the singers, accepted as candidates in the competition, will up to a certain number, be able to be accommodated,
free of charge, with private host families in Norrköping. This accommodation is available at the earliest two days before the beginning of competition, and latest to the day after the Final concert. The accommodation includes bed and breakfast. Free accommodation in a family is intended only for the participating singers. Information about hotel accommodation will be given, upon request, by the WSIMC website or at the office. Hotel expenses must be borned by the competitors.
