August 23 \u0441\u0435\u0440\u043f\u043d\u044f, 4 p.m, National Sanctuary “Sophia of Kyiv”<\/p>\n

Gy\u00f6rgy Ligeti became an icon of the new music and turned the world of the musical avant-garde of the second half of the XX century upside down. But one day in December 1956, his own life turned upside down. Two months after the Soviet invasion of Hungary, he left Budapest in a mail car, hiding under the bags of letters and parcels, as in a spy movie. And he found himself on the other side of the Iron Curtain – in Vienna.<\/span><\/p>\n

There he began his journey from earth to heaven, so to say. From folklore, generously sprouted in the mountains and valleys of Romania and Hungary, rewritten in a new quality under the influence of Bartok – to cosmic timbres and sonorous wonders, to micromotivity and micropolyphony, which created a new reality for his contemporaries.<\/span><\/p>\n

Young Ukrainian musicians, supported by VERE MUSIC FUND, will play in this concert not just the “prehistoric” Ligeti – as he called his music written in the communist Hungary. They will try to show what he became in the free music world. The same world, which, thanks to him, has changed forever.<\/span><\/p>\n
