Application:

Applications can only be made online. Enter the required information in the entry sheet on the official website (https://www.tipc.jp) and upload the following data ((A)‐(C)).

The contents of the data files can be modified/updated during the application period.

(A)A performance video file of the repertoire for the Preliminary Selection (file format must be MP4, AVI, MOV or WMV)

(B)An image file of a recent glossy color photograph (* Front facing, chest up / Resolution of 300 dpi or more recommended.)

* The photo will be used for the official competition program and other media purposes.

(C)A PDF file of a passport or an official document as evidence of the applicantʼs name, nationality, and date of birth.

The Preliminary Selection will be conducted on the basis of the data and file submitted by the applicants and a video data recording (MP4, AVI, MOV or WMV) of the applicants performing the set pieces.

Contestants shall pay a competition entry fee of 20,000 yen via PayPal by December 15, 2025. If the entry fee is not paid by the specified date, the contestant shall be disqualified.

2nd Prize – ¥1,000,000
3rd Prize – ¥500,000
4th Prize – ¥300,000
5th Prize – ¥200,000

Repertoire:

Round I

Contestants play the following pieces in order of (A), (B) and (C).

The performance time shall be no more than 25 minutes in total. Performances exceeding the time limit might be stopped by the jury, but the interruption will not effect  their judgement/results.

(A) J. S. Bach: one piece from the following pieces:

Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue in d minor, BWV 903
Fantasy and Fugue in a minor, BWV 904
Toccata in f-sharp minor, BWV 910
Toccata in c minor, BWV 911
Toccata in D major, BWV 912
Toccata in d minor, BWV 913

Toccata in G major, BWV 916
Italian Concerto in F major, BWV 971
Capriccio on the departure of a beloved brother in B-flat major, BWV 992

(B) Liszt: one piece from the following etudes:

(C)One or more piece(s) of the following composers:

Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, Messiaen, Scriabin, Prokofiev, Balakirev, Shostakovich, Albeniz, de Falla, Granados, Bartók, Janácek, Busoni (original works only) * Contestants may NOT play the same piece that they performed during the Preliminary Selection.

Round II

Contestants will be required to play the following pieces in the order of (A) and (B).

The performance time shall be no more than 45 minutes in total. Repetition shall be at their own discretion. Performances exceeding the time limit might be stopped by the jury, but the interruption will not effect their judgement/results.

(A)All the movements of Mozart’s sonata selected from the followings:

Piano Sonata in a minor, K. 310
Piano Sonata in B-flat major, K. 333
Piano Sonata in c minor, K. 457
Piano Sonata in B-flat major, K. 570
Piano Sonata in D major, K. 576

(B)Piece(s) of your choice by Schumann, Brahms, Schubert, Mendelssohn, or Chopin

* Contestants may choose pieces by multiple composers.
* For a sonata, contestants shall play all the movements

Round III

Contestants play the following pieces in the order of (A), (B) and (C). (A)

All the movements of Beethoven’s sonata selected from the followings:

The repetition shall be as instructed in the parenthesis. Any deviation from the instruction is subject to deduction.

Piano Sonata No. 3 in C major, Op. 2-3 (NO repetition, da capo in the 3rd movement to be played)

Piano Sonata No. 4 in E-flat major, Op. 7 (NO repetition, da capo in the 3rd movement to be played)

Piano Sonata No. 21 in C major, Op. 53 (NO repetition)

Piano Sonata No. 23 in f minor, Op. 57 (the 2nd movement: with repetition, the 3rd movement: repetition of coda)

Piano Sonata No. 28 in A major, Op. 101 (repetition in the 8th bar of the beginning of the 2nd movement to be played, da capo to be played; other repetitions are omitted)

Piano Sonata No. 31 in A-flat major, Op. 110 (repetition in the 2nd movement)

Piano Sonata No. 32 in c minor, Op. 111 (the 1st movement: NO repetition, the 2nd movement: with repetition)

(B) A commissioned piece for the 6th Takamatsu International Piano Competition Commissioned composer:

KUWABARA Yu

(C) Contestants will select one of the piano quartets listed below and play with the string players designated by the TIPC Office. It is highly recommended to use the Henle edition scores for Schumann and Brahms and the score of Durand for Saint-Saëns. Repetition is NOT played except for the 3rd movement of Schumann.

Schumann: Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 47
Brahms: Piano Quartet No. 3 in c minor, Op. 60
Saint-Saëns: Piano Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 41

Final

Contestants will be required to play one concerto of their choice from the list below with the orchestra designated by the organizer. 6-5 Notes

(A)All performances will be open to the general public.

(B) A part of your performance piece may be cut because of time constraints.

(C)All performances shall be done from memory except for the commissioned piece and the piano quartet in Round 3.

(D)If you wish to change your performance pieces which you stated in the entry sheet, notify the change to the TIPC Office by E-mail (info@tipc.jp) no later than December 15, 2025. The request needs to be approved by the Office.
