Rules and Regulations
Qualifying Rounds and Public Auditions
General Terms and Conditions 

1 – The competition is open to young opera singers of all nationalities born after 1 January 1987.

2 – The competition’s Board of Directors shall rule without appeal on the candidates’ admission.

3 – The competition is composed of video pre-selections (spring 2020) and public auditions (November 2020):

• Qualifying Auditions
• Semi-finals
• Final Audition (with orchestra)

Candidates must submit their applications for the competition via the portal on our website no later than Friday 20 March 2020. There shall be no refund of application fees after this date.

4 – The competition will provide candidates with an accompanist. Only one rehearsal offered before each audition. Any additional rehearsals shall be at the candidate’s expense. Candidates may come with their own accompanist. In this case, please specify this at the time of online registration.

5 – A rehearsal with piano and conductor and then a rehearsal with orchestra will be held prior to the Final Audition with orchestra.

6 – The arias shall be performed from memory. The candidate shall not sing the same aria more than once, except for the Final Audition. Each movement, excerpt, or individual aria shall be sung in its entirety. The performance shall not exceed the time limit specified by the competition.

7 – The auditions – in whole or in part – may be recorded and/or broadcast on radio, online, and on television without being subject to any form of compensation whatsoever.

8 – By signing the registration form, the candidates agree to comply with the Rules and Regulations in full; undertake to fulfil their obligations with respect to the Prizes won; and participate voluntarily in the Laureates’ Gala if applicable.

9 – The competition shall not be held responsible for the material organization of any concert subsequently offered to the winners.

10 – In the event of a dispute, only the French text of the Rules and Regulations shall be considered valid.

Jury

1 – The decisions of the Jury are final.

2 – The Jury is under no obligation to award all the Prizes.

3 – The Jury alone shall decide whether or not to grant Special Prizes to Semi-final candidates who were not admitted to the Final.

4 – The jury is composed of prominent figures from the music world, French and foreign, proposed by the President of the Jury and approved by the competition’s Board of Directors.

Registrations

As mentioned above, applications must be submitted in full, including all supporting documents, via the portal on our website by 20 March 2020 at the latest. After this date, applications for the competition and the online portal will be closed.

All applications must include:

• A biography
• A high-definition, recent ID photograph
• A photocopy of your passport or national identity card
• Proof of registration fee payment via bank transfer

A €150 registration fee (plus banking fee) is due in full and is non-refundable whatsoever. Payment must be made via bank transfer only, to the Long Thibaud Foundation.

Pre-selections

Each candidate shall submit two videos (with sound and image), including two opera arias of their choice, which must be included in the proposed repertoire list. Each aria must be uploaded separately and on two different videos. The pre-selection jury shall watch all the candidates’ videos. The arias must be from two different operas and sung in two different languages. The arias must be performed in their original language.

The recording must be of good quality, and less than one year old (specify the recording date upon submission). The date and place of recording must also be specified when submitting the videos. Each candidate shall be accompanied on the piano. For each aria, the video must be recorded in one take, fixed shot, and without any form of editing.

The videos must be submitted, prior to the deadline specified following the validation of the application form, by WeTransfer to the following email address: production@long-thibaud-crespin.org.

Audition Draw

The selected candidates’ running order will be drawn by a member of the Competition’s Board of Directors in November 2020. The resulting running order shall be valid for the entire competition. All candidates must attend the draw.

Repertoire and Auditions

For each audition, the candidates shall choose a total of six arias from the repertoire provided, according to their tessitura. The list of chosen arias shall be submitted after the announcement of the candidates selected for the competition. Once submitted, this list shall not be modified throughout the entire duration of the competition.

Qualifying Auditions

The candidates shall compete in the qualifying auditions following the running order determined by the draw.

Each candidate shall sing two arias from their chosen list of six: one aria of their own choice, and another chosen by the jury.

Semi-finals

The candidates shall audition for the semi-finals following the running order determined by the draw.

Each candidate shall sing two arias, not previously sung, from their chosen list: one aria of their own choice, and another chosen by the jury.

Final with Orchestra

The finalists shall sing two arias, with orchestra, chosen by the jury from the candidate’s initial list of six arias. These arias may have already been performed by the candidate.

Prizes

Only the first three “Grand Prix” winners can claim the title of “Grand Prix Régine Crespin.” The other prize winners will bear the title of “Lauréat du Concours International d’art Lyrique Régine Crespin” (Prize Winner of the Régine Crespin International Opera Competition).
