GENERAL TERMS

The Third International Competition of Musical Art «Kharkiv assemblies» will be held in Kharkiv, Ukraine from 7th ─ 11th October, 2018

The Competition is open to Musicians of all nationalities who were born on or after 1 October, 1978.

COMPETITION CATEGORYS AND AGE GROUPS

The competition will be held in two categories:

  • “Piano”
  • “Vocal”

For all categories the Competition will take place in two rounds.

The categories of the Competition are subdivided into two age groups:

  • First age group: 18-25 years (competitors born on or after October 1, 1992)
  • Second age group: 26-40 years (competitors born on or after October 1, 1978)

COMPETITION PROCEDURE

All the performances are open to the public.

The Competitors in each category and age will draw lots to determine the order of performance; this order will be maintained throughout the Competition.

Competition Laureates and Diploma Holders are obliged to participate in the Finale Concerts without remuneration or reimbursement of expenses.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to record and market Competition performances and the Finale Concerts in any format, in the present or in the future, including but not limited to audio, video, digital or other forms of recording, and/or to radio and/or TV broadcasts without remuneration to the Competitors.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to publish the pictures of participants as well as pictures taken during the Competition in any media related to the Competition.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applications are to be submitted by August 6, 2018 by e-mail: festival.competitions@gmail.com.


Application form:

  1. Surname and name of the participants;
  2. Surname, name and academic title of teacher or creative chief, if any;
  3. Place of study/work, position;
  4. Contact telephone number, e-mail address;
  5. Category;
  6. Program with the specified duration of each piece.

Application Form must be accompanied by:

  • A copy of the passport
  • Short biography of the applicant
  • Proposed competition repertoire
  • Digital photo for publishing purpose (quality no less than 640×480, 0.3 megapixel)

A non-refundable Entrance Fee is 50 EUR for all categories.

PRIZES AND AWARDS


First age group:

 
  • I prize ― 1000 euro
  • II prize ― 750 euro
  • III prize ― 500 euro

Second age group:

  • I prize ― 1500 euro
  • II prize ― 1000 euro
  • III prize ― 750 euro

Special prize for the best performance of a piece composed by Clara Schumann (Wieck) or by Fanny Mendelssohn.

Depending upon the results achieved by the contestants and within the limits of the set number of prizes the jury is authorized:

  1. to withhold prizes;
  2. to have performers share prizes;
  3. award special prizes.

The Oganizing Committee will endeavour to arrange opportunities for the best laureates to perform the concerts during the 2018-2019 concert season in Ukraine and abroad.

REPERTOIRE

The order of performance is determined by the participants.

The competition program in the categorys “Piano” and “Voice” is performed by heart.

The pieces in the category “Vocal” are performed in the languages of their original language.

CATEGORIES “Piano”

First age group

The first round (from 25 to 35 minutes)

  1. J. S. Bach Prelude and Fugue from The Well-Tempered Clavier;
  2. Complete sonata by J. Haydn, W. Mozart, L. Beethoven;
  3. One virtuoso etude (to choose) of the following composers: F. Chopin, F. Liszt, A. Scriabin, S. Rachmaninov, S. Prokofiev, I. Stravinsky;
  4. A composition from the competitors own country.

The second round (from 35 to 45 minutes)

  1. An Important Work from the Romantic period;
  2. Work / works by the choice of the participant.

Second age group

The first round (from 30 to 40 minutes)

  1. J. S. Bach Prelude and Fugue from The Well-Tempered Clavier;
  2. Complete sonata by J. Haydn, W. Mozart, L. Beethoven, F. Schubert;
  3. One virtuoso etude (to choose) of the following composers: F. Chopin, F. Liszt, A. Scriabin, S. Rachmaninov, S. Prokofiev, I. Stravinsky;
  4. A composition from the competitors own country.

The second round (from 40 to 50 minutes)

  1. An Important Work from the Romantic period;
  2. Work / works of the composer of the XX century;
  3. Work / works by the choice of the participant.

CATEGORIES “Vocal”

First age group


The first round (from 15 to 20 minutes)

  1. Aria from the opera, cantata or oratorio of the XVII–XVIII centuries composer;
  2. Aria from the opera of the Western European composer of the XIX–XX centuries;
  3. Song / songs by the XIX century composer.

The second round (from 20 to 25 minutes)

  1. Aria from the opera by Western European composer;
  2. Aria from the opera, cantata or oratorio by the modern composer;
  3. Song by the composer from the competitiors own country.

Second age group


The first round (from 15 to 20 minutes)

  1. Aria from the opera, cantata or oratorio of the XVII–XVIII centuries composer;
  2. Aria from the opera of the Western European composer of the XIX–XX centuries;
  3. Song by a Western Europe composer.


The second round (from 20 to 25 minutes)

  1. Aria from the opera by Western European composer;
  2. Aria from the opera, cantata or oratorio by the modern composer;
  3. Song / songs by the composer of the XX century;
  4. Song by the composer from the competitors own country.

JURY EVALUATION

The performances will be evaluated by an international jury consisting of outstanding musicians.

Jury decisions are final and may not be challenged or amended.

Jury members shall not vote for competitors who are related to them or who have been studying with them regularly in the 36 months preceding the competition, or have had more than one lesson at master-classes in the 12 months preceding the Competition.

The jury is authorized to interrupt the performances exceeding the time limit or in case it fail to meet the professional demands of the competition.
