Application rules:
The 11th International FRANZ LISZT Piano Competition Weimar – Bayreuth is open to pianists of all nationalities who were born after 1 January 1993.
Application deadline: 15 June 2024
Along with their application, applicants are to submit a recording of themselves playing. The program for this recording should be taken from the repertoire listed under “Pre-selection”. An admission committee will decide the admittance to the competition. In doing so, 35 participants will be selected.
The recordings for the selection are authoritative when all of the conditions of participation have been met. The decision will be disclosed in writing by the 21st July 2024.
Explanations regarding the decision will not be given.

certificate of study or a certificate for a completed degree
Evaluation/recommendation from a renowned piano educator
Payment of the registration fee: 100 Euro

Repertoire:
Preliminary Round with video recordings (20 – 25 minutes)
a) Frédéric Chopin or Sergei Rachmaninov or Alexander Scriabin: one virtuoso etude of choice
b) Franz Liszt: one etude of your choice
c) Franz Schubert/Franz Liszt: a song transcription of your choice
d) one or more works of free choice
First Round (35 – 40 minutes)
a) Joseph Haydn or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or Muzio Clementi: one sonata of your choice
b) Franz Liszt: one etude of your choice
c) Franz Liszt: one or more works of your choice (except etudes)
Second Round (60 – 70 minutes)
a) Franz Schubert or Ludwig van Beethoven: one sonata of your choice
b) Franz Schubert / Franz Liszt: one or more song transcriptions of your choice (repetition from the pre-selection possible)
c) Franz Liszt: Sonata in B minor or Après une lecture du Dante – Fantasia quasi Sonata
Semi-Final
One of the following works:
Robert Schumann: Piano Quintet in E flat major op. 44
Johannes Brahms: Piano Quintet in F minor op. 34
Antonin Dvořák: Piano Quintet in A major op. 81
César Franck: Piano Quintet in F minor
Ensemble: Karol Szymanowski Quartet
Final
a) Franz Liszt: Piano Concerto in E flat major or Piano Concerto in A major
b) a short encore of your choice
