Obligatory terms

The competition will include two categories.

Three-round competition (two age groups):

  1. First age group – born after 1 March 2003.
  2. Second age group – born after 1 March 1999.
  3. the third round is held with the accompaniment of the symphony orchestra.

Category “Debut” (three age groups):

This category includes one round

  1. First age group – born after 1 March 2008.
  2. Second age group – born after 1 March 2006.
  3. Third age group – born after 1 March 2004.

Written applications for the participation in the competition must be submitted before 1 January 2018 by e-mail: musicschoolkh@ukr.net.

Applicants have to enclose:

– Application.

– Birth certificate (a copy).

– Study reference.

– Biodata.

– Photo (digital).

A registration fee for the three-round competition is 50 Euro (in hrivna equivalent), for the “Debut” category – 500 hrivnas is paid during the registration of the contestant.

Applicants for the competition will be informed of their registration not later than 15 February 2018.

Outstanding musicians from different countries are invited to serve for the jury.

Each round of the competition is open to the public.

All music pieces are to be performed from memory.

The jury is authorized to interrupt the performance in case it fails to meet the professional demands of the competition.

Sequence of performance is determined by lot and remains unchanged until the end.

Not more than half of the performers of the 1st round in the three-round competition will be admitted to the 2nd round.

The participation of laureates and diploma-winners in the final concert is obligatory (free).

In a three-round competition the organizing committee is setting for each age group the following monetary prizes:

Senior group

First prize – 1 500 EUR.

Second prize – 1 000 EUR.

Third prize – 750 EUR.

Junior group

First prize – 1 000 EUR.

Second prize – 750 EUR.

Third prize – 500 EUR.

Depending upon the results achieved by the contestants and within the limits of the set number of prizes the jury is authorized:

– to withhold prizes;

– to have performers share prizes;

– award special prizes.

Winners in the “Debut” category are awarded with diplomas and presents.

Programme

Competition performance duration for each group of the “Debut” category:

I group – from 10 to 15 minutes.

II group – from 15 to 20 minutes.

III group – from 20 to 25 minutes.

  1. A polyphonic piece from the Baroque.
  2. A sonata allegro movement from the Classical period.
  3. An Etude of participant’s choice.

The choice of music for the rest of the programme is entirely at the discretion of the competitor within the time allowed for each age group.

Three-round competition

First (younger) age group

I ROUND (duration of the programme 10-20 min.)

  1. A polyphonic piece from the Baroque period.
  2. A sonata allegro movement from the Classical period.
  3. An Etude of participant’s choice.

The choice of music for the rest of the programme is entirely at the discretion of the competitor within the time allowed for each age group.

II ROUND (duration of the programme 20-30 min.)

  1. Any piece(s) composed by P. I. Tchaikovsky or C. Debussy.
  2. A composition from the competitors own country.

The choice of music for the rest of the programme is entirely at the discretion of the competitor within the time allowed for each age group.

III ROUND

Participants of the 1st age group have to perform 1st or 2nd-3rd movements for the piano and orchestra of contestant’s choice from the mentioned below:

  1. S.Bach – BWV 1052 d-moll; BWV 1053 E-dur; BWV 1056 f-moll; BWV 1058 g-moll.
  2. Haynd – Hob. XVIII/II D-dur.
  3. A.Mozart – KV 246 C-dur (№ 8); KV 414 A-dur (№ 12); KV 466 d-moll (№ 20); KV 467 C-dur (№ 21); KV 488 A-dur (№ 23).
  4. Beethoven – № 1 C-dur op. 15; № 2 B-dur op. 19.
  5. Mendellsohn – № 1g-moll op. 25.
  6. Saint-Saens – № 2 g-moll op. 22.

Second (older age group)

I ROUND (duration of the programme 10-20 min.)

  1. A polyphonic piece from the Baroque period.
  2. A sonata allegro movement from the Classical period.
  3. An Etude of participant’s choice.

II ROUND (duration of the programme 20-30 min.)

  1. Any piece(s) composed by P. I. Tchaikovsky or C. Debussy.
  2. A composition from the competitor’s own country.

III ROUND

Participants of the 2nd age group have to perform the whole concert for the piano and orchestra of contestant’s choice from the mentioned below:

  1. A.Mozart – KV 466 d-moll (№ 20), KV 491 c-moll (№ 24).
  2. Beethoven – № 2 B-dur op.. 19, № 3 c-moll op. 37.
  3. Liszt – № 1 Es-dur S. 124, № 2 f-moll S. 125.
  4. Chopin – № 1 e-moll op. 11, № 2 f-moll op. 21.
  5. Saint-Saens – № 2 g-moll op. 22.
  6. Grieg – a-moll op. 16.
  7. Tchaikovsky – № 1 b-moll op. 23.
  8. Schumann – a-moll op. 54.
  9. Rachmaninov – № 1 fis-moll op. 1, № 2 c-moll op. 18.
  10. Ravel – C-dur.
  11. Prokofiev – № 1 Des-dur op. 10.
  12. Gershwin – Rhapsody in Blue.
