Sofiia Matviienko

Sofiia was born in the small town of Pereshchepyne in the Dnipropetrovsk region. She started learning to play the recorder at the age of five. At the age of 9, Sofia switched to classical flute and moved to Poltava to study at a music school. She graduated from the Poltava Academy of Arts.

Sofia actively participates in various international competitions, workshops and summer music schools in order to continue developing and meeting other musicians.

The musician has participated in music festivals in Argentina, Bosnia, Italy, and Germany. In 2016, her first solo concert took place in Italy, which was recorded on CD.

In 2017, Sofiia auditioned and received a full scholarship to study at Britain’s oldest school for young musicians – Purcell School, which she graduated with honors. In addition to music, she studied dancing, playing the piano, singing, and painting.

Since 2020, thanks to an ABRSM scholarship, she has been studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, in the class of legendary flutist William Bennett.

Sofia received grant support from the Rotary Club Düsseldorf-Schloßturm, she participated in the Yamaha scholarship program. Since 2018 she has been receiving grant support from VERE MUSIC FUND.
