“Bits and pieces” is an English expression that refers to the seemingly random collection of small things that can be found in a house. However, the term also has another, very tender meaning: it is related to important aspects of one’s past and the “little things” that we carry with us metaphorically that make us who we are today. It carries with it associations of nostalgia and intimacy, as well as a sense of focusing on ideas such as culture rather than concrete materialism.

The whole idea is that it’s the small, unnoticeable things that matter most. We had to leave our homes and move to Denmark. When you move to another place or evacuate, you can’t take much with you, but it’s those things that tell the most eloquent story about you. We took pieces of our homes with us – the music and culture that are part of us and make us who we are.
