Application rules:

Application forms must be completed and submitted online via www.seoulcompetition.com.
The application deadline is July 17, 2022. This deadline cannot be extended under any circumstances.
Application to the Competition must include the following documents and materials:

• All applications must be made using the form available on the Seoul International Music Competition (www.seoulcompetition.com). No other method of submission will be accepted.
• Photocopy of the applicant’s passport (upload formats: .jpeg or .pdf)
• A high resolution photograph of the applicant (upload formats .jpeg files 300 dpi or higher/front facing, chest-up), suitable for publicity purposes free of copyright
• A high-quality unmodified video recording (audio and video). Must include all of the following in this order:

Paganini Any one Caprice of the 24 Caprices for solo violin, Op.1
S. Bach One of the following violin-piano sonatas:
Sonata No.1 in G minor, BWV 1001, Siciliana (third movement)
Sonata No.2 in A minor, BWV 1003, Andante (third movement)
Sonata No.3 in C major, BWV 1005, Largo (third movement)
Beethoven One movement of the following violin-piano sonatas:
Sonata No. 1 in D major, Op.12
Sonata No. 2 in A major, Op.12
Sonata No. 3 in E-flat major, Op.12
Sonata No. 4 in A minor, Op.23
Sonata No. 6 in A major, Op.30
Kreisler One of the following pieces:

Participation fee:

Following receipt of the admission confirmation, the participation fee of $200 must be transferred “free of bank charges for the recipient” by August 5, 2022 at the latest. All bank charges relating to the international transfer are to be paid by the applicants. This participation fee cannot be refunded under any circumstances.

The arrival of the entry fee will be considered as a formal agreement between the applicant and the Dong-A Ilbo on his/her participation in the competition under the terms and conditions of the Seoul International Music Competition.

There will be cash awards in total of US $122,000.
• First Prize: US $50,000
• Second Prize : US $30,000
• Third Prize: US $20,000
• Fourth Prize: US $10,000
• Fifth Prize: US $ 7,000
• Sixth Prize: US $ 5,000

VIOLIN repertoire:

First round:
All Competition participants will be required to play 1, 2, and 3:
N. Paganini Obligatory Caprice Op.1 no.24 and one of free choice from 24 caprices
J. S. Bach First and second movement from one of the Solo Sonatas (BWV 1001, 1003 and 1005)
W. A. Mozart Any first movement of following concertos K.207, K.211, K.216, K.218 and K.219.
(Cadenza must be included and the type of cadenza is at competitior’s discretion)

Second round:
Competitors will be required to play 1 and 2:
• One of the following violin-piano sonatas: (to be performed all the movements)
Beethoven
Sonata No.1 in D major, Op.12
Sonata No.2 in A major, Op.12
Sonata No.3 in E-flat major, Op.12
Sonata No.4 in A minor, Op.23
Sonata No.6 in A major, Op.30
• One of the following pieces: (to be performed all the movements)
Corigliano “Stomp” for Violin Solo
Ernst Grand Caprice for Violin Solo Op. 26, “Erlkönig”
Ludwig Five Ladino Songs for Violin Solo
Jeajoon Ryu Capriccio for Violin Solo
Ysaÿe Sonata No.3 in D minor for solo violin, Op.27 or Sonata No.6 in E major for solo violin, Op.27.

Semifinal round:
Competitors will be required to play 1, 2, and 3 (Performance time may not exceed 45 min)
The 2022 Commissioned Work will be sent to each particitants who are accepted to Preliminary round at least two months prior to the Compitition. (Approximately 5 minutes in length.)
