Oleksandra Khmara was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. After graduating from the Mykola Lysenko Kyiv State Music Lyceum, she continued her studies at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (Switzerland).
She is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions, including the Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition (Belgium, 2018), the Odesa International Violin Competition (Ukraine, 2019), and the Concorso Internazionale di Violino Villafranca di Verona (Italy, 2019).
Oleksandra performs regularly across Europe and has also appeared in Canada, the United States, and the Middle East.
She has participated in renowned festivals such as the Enescu Festival, Festival de Pâques d’Aix-en-Provence, Brucknerfest, Chopin and His Europe, and many others.
In 2022, Oleksandra co-founded the Zoltan Almashi String Quartet. The ensemble has taken part in masterclasses with members of the Aviv Quartet, Belcea Quartet, and Quatuor Ébène, and has presented programmes at Ramada Swiss (Switzerland) and Stanford University (USA).
Oleksandra also specialises in historically informed performance and collaborates regularly with leading period-instrument ensembles, including Il Giardino Armonico (conducted by Giovanni Antonini), Orchestre des Champs-Élysées (Philippe Herreweghe), Les Musiciens du Louvre (Marc Minkowski), Le Moment Baroque (Jonathan Nubel), and La Chapelle Saint-Marc (Vincent Bernard).
She performs on an instrument by the Swiss luthier Jérémy Bonet, awarded to her as a special prize at the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition (Switzerland) in 2021.
