Ukrainian mezzo-soprano Valentyna Pluzhnikova is a participant in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program of the Metropolitan Opera (New York, USA), where she got at the age of 23. At the same time she received a master’s degree from the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music of Ukraine in Kyiv. During her studies she sang leading parts on the stage of the opera studio of the conservatory. From 2017 to 2019 she was a member of the Opera Academy of the Polish National Theater.
In the winter of 2020, she made her debut in Maurice Ravel’s opera “Child and Enchantment”; (Philadelphia, USA). In 2019, she participated in the Bartok Plus Opera Festival in Hungary and the Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival, where she made her debut in Chilean opera Adriana Lecouvreur. Also in 2019 she made her debut at the Taras Shevchenko National Opera and Ballet Theater in the role of Siebel (Faust). In 2018, she studied at the Corso d’Opera (Cortona, Italy) and sang a concert at the Giuseppe Verdi Opera House (Florence, Italy).
Valentyna won the Fifth Prize at the International Tenor Viñas Contest 2019. In the same season, she won second place at the XXIX International Iris Adami Corradetti Competition of Opera Singers in Padua (Italy). In addition, she was a finalist at the 24th International Competition of Opera Singers “Ferruccio Tagliavini”; (Austria) and the III International Eva Marton Competition of Opera Singers in Budapest (Hungary).
She is currently continuing her internship at the Metropolitan Opera House and has an active concert life.
