Around 1972, an almost epidemiological outbreak of caprices and etudes for solo violin began in the violin repertoire. This process, growing with each passing decade, reached the level of a separate phenomenon, but remained almost unnoticed. The new caprices and etudes resonate with the needs of new violinists who redefine the boundaries of the instrument and create new virtuosity.
The project, curated by Orest Smovzh, will feature caprices and etudes, both recorded by Orest and performed live by violinist and composer Akim Zvarych and violinist Krystyna Gordienko. The program will feature works specially written for this program by young Ukrainian composers in combination with several pieces by world-renowned authors, illustrating the phenomenon of search, boundary breaking and self-expression that has not yet been noticed by the general music audience.
The project is the winner of the Per Forma grant program, implemented by the Kyiv Contemporary Music Days platform with the support of the Performing Arts Fund NL and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands to develop the performing arts sector in Ukraine.
